How do I tell if I have a digital TV set?
Generally, a digital TV set will be noticeably wider than it is high. That's because of the 16x9 "aspect ratio" -- i.e., the set is 16 units wide and 9 units high. Since March 2007, all sets imported into the U.S. were required to be digital. There are still some analog TV sets on store shelves, but the federal government requires that these sets be prominently labeled to indicate that they are analog-only and may not work after the DTV transition date without a converter box or a cable or satellite hookup.
Digital TV sets are denoted as "ATSC," which stands for "Advanced Television Systems Committee," the organization that sets the technical standards for DTV.
If you're not sure, check your owner's manual, check the set manufacturer's website for specific information on your TV model, or call the set manufacturer's 800 number.
