What do I do with my old TV set?

First, don't landfill it or dump it in the woods!

Your older analog TV set will work perfectly fine after the DTV transition date of Feb. 17, 2009, as long as you have it hooked up to cable TV, satellite TV (in most areas of Maine), or an over-the-air antenna with a digital-to-analog converter box.

Analog TV sets will still work with video games, VCRs and DVD players also.  Some TVs can even be used as computer monitors.

Maine has a strict electronic-waste recycling law.  Manufacturers of electronic devices such as TV sets are responsible for collecting old e-waste, including TV sets, and making sure the components are recycled or disposed of properly.  For more information on how to properly recycle your old TV, visit the Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection's website.
